How to With Two – Keeping a Toddler Busy

How to, with two? I am still no expert on this subject. However, with each day I feel like I gain a little more confidence as we get into more of a routine. Obviously a newborn does not have a set schedule, so we have to go with the flow some days, and really that’s okay! I’m loving my time at home with my girls and all the memories that we are making together this summer.

For the first post in this series, I thought I would share some summer activities that we have done so far this summer. My first piece of advice to mamas that are expecting their second child, is to try to plan an activity with your older child to give them a little of your undivided attention. When I am able to do a one-on-one activity with Adelyn, I notice that her behavior and temperament is so much better than if I don’t.

Activities planned don’t need to involve a lot of work, but I do recommended to try to know what you are going to do with your older child the day before. On Sundays, I write down a few things that I can do with Adelyn throughout the week, so that I can be more prepared. They can be simple activities such as: play-doh, painting/coloring, playing with tubs of water, blowing bubbles, chalk, dancing to toddler tunes, a picnic outside, or even baking cookies together.

Here are a few fun activities that Adelyn and I have done this Spring/Summer! I hope these might give you some ideas for things to do with your little ones!

Tea Parties with Animal Friends

Playing with Flour

Materials: plastic tablecloth, flour, plastic toys or cups

Indoor Picnic

Save this activity for a rainy day.

Water Beads

Materials: water beads, large tub, sand toys, and fine motor tools.

If all else fails, we run to the library!

I hope a few of these activities can help if you have a busy toddler like I do! Keeping her busy has helped so much as we transitioned to two children.

What are some of your favorite activities to do with your toddler?
