A Sister Love List & Giveaway

It’s no secret. I love taking photos of my girls together. I love an individual photo of them as well, but taking sibling photos is so fun to watch them interact with each other. Each photo I take of them together is a treasured moment that I know I will love looking back at in the future. However, as much as my photos may look like they both just cooperate and I get a perfect photo, this is not always the case. Getting Adelyn to lay with Emery for a photo can be a full workout – she knows how to make mama work for a single photo… Once I get Adelyn to sit or lay next to Emery, Emery then grabs Adelyn’s hair, which makes Adelyn get up and cry – and I’m back to square one. These photos are not an easy task – but goodness do I love capturing these girls together!

This month, I thought it would be fun to share our favorite products that I love for both girls and sharing some tips of how to get a sibling shot!

Picking a Background

Finding a background is the first thing I look for when deciding to take their photo. I have a fluffy white rug that can be seen in most of my photos but it is also fun to get a little color in the background as well. Let’s Playground makes fun colored/patterned mats that are perfect for a photo background but also double as a mat to get messy on. I love using our mat for painting, play-doh, and sensory bin activities. Our favorite thing to do on it is have an indoor picnic. Pillows, finger foods, and animal friends are all you need in addition to the Let’s Playground mat.

Adding Accessories

Getting a sibling shot with accessories that coordinate but are not “matchy matchy” is so fun! For the girls, I call these the “B” accessories – bracelets, bibs, bows, and bonnets. Here are a few of our current favorites!

Billy Bibs makes the most beautiful handmade bibs that can be for eating, drooling, or just to add a pop of color to an outfit. They are also reversible so that you basically get two bibs in one.

Briar Handmade makes the most exquisite bonnets for babies, toddlers, and children. Floral, stripes, solids – the line of fabrics used are beautiful and every bonnet is so well made. I have loved putting a bonnet on Emery since she was born, and I love the look of both girls matching in their bonnets as well.

We have been buying Free Babes bows for a couple years now as Adelyn has been wearing them since she was a little girl. I love accessorizing the girl’s outfits with solid color and floral bows. Free Babes bows are always made with the most gorgeous fabrics. I also love getting two of same color in the petite schoolgirl bows for Adelyn’s buns/pig tails.

Another fun accessory for siblings is to have matching jewelry. I know that I can get Adelyn to wear her bracelets (or any accessory really), if Emery is also wearing them well. (Anything baby sister has, she has to have too) Poppy Lane & Co is such a sweet shop full of different colored bracelets for the whole family to wear. They have a well-made clasp to secure each bracelet and all the beads to choose from are just stunning. And I also think that it doesn’t get any cuter than little beads wrapped around Emery’s chunky wrist.

Making Photos Fun!

Making photos fun invites children to play and interact with one another, which makes for a great photo. This can be items such as toys, stuffed animals, and books!

A Good Start makes affordable, handmade, stuffed animals that can be played with or used a decorative item in a children’s room. These animals are such fun and unique photo props. Adelyn loves them because she can undress and redress each animal, while Emery just loves to chew on the arms…

Books are also another fun way to get children to interact with one another in a photo. Adelyn loves to read to Emery now that she is sitting up on her own. Our favorite books right now are the “All Aboard” books by Haily & Kevin Meyers. These books are sold in Haily’s shop, Lucy Darling. The photos are so bright, fun, and lovely. I love the content of each book going a different place around the world while teaching the girl’s key vocabulary words of each destination. These books photograph well and are interesting for the girls to look at and read.

Bathtime!

The girl’s favorite time of the day is bath time! With Emery being a bit older, I have started to give them both a bath together while Emery’s bath can also be used in a larger bathtub. Having both girls in a contained area, such as the bathtub, can sometimes be the only way to get a photo of the both of them. Tubby Todd is our favorite brand because with it’s 100% natural ingredients, I can use the same shampoo and lotion on both of the girls.

We love each of these shops so much, and think you will too! We want to give you the chance to win something from every shop over on our Instagram page! Head on over to see how to enter!
